5 Top Beauty Tips To Live By For Healthier Skin

It’s the smart choices you make throughout the years that add up and pay off, not always genetics as we've come to tell ourselves. In some way, yes we are genetically programmed to age a certain way, but genetics are now only thought to be responsible for only 20-30% of ageing. The rest, is up to you. Good habits, the right products and caring for your skin the right way, every day is essential.

1. Say no, no NO to soap!

The stuff that's used to hold soap together are in an alkaline base (high pH balance). This strips away all the water and natural oils from skin, causing the skin’s surface to dehydrate. Your skin needs moisture in order to be healthy. Without this, sensitivity, acne and dry skin become aggravated and worsen. Opt for a sulphate (SLS) free cleanser that is formulated for your skin type.


2. How do you sleep?

Did you know the second cause of wrinkles is sleeping? Yep, exposing your skin to the sun then squishing your face into a pillow for around 2,500 hours per year while you sleep is literally like ironing wrinkles into the skin. If you want to prevent premature wrinkles, you might want to consider how you lie on your pillow. You can also invest in a silk pillow case, they are much nicer to your skin (and hair!) while you sleep!


3. Get your scrub on

Ensure you are exfoliating regularly with good, natural based exfoliator. Regular scrubbing not also makes your skin instantly smooth, it boosts circulation and removes dead, dry skin.

TIP: When you want deep exfoliation, do it longer, not harder, as you cleanse your skin. This will ensure maximum exfoliation without the damage to your skin.


4. Give yourself mini at-home facials

Regular at-home facials can reveal clearer, softer and more radiant kin. You can really give your skin extra results, above and beyond your normal skincare routine.

First, make sure you double cleanse to remove all traces of makeup, then exfoliate with a mild facial scrub.

Next, apply a serum of your choice, (if you aren't sure, go for something hydrating with Hyaluronic Acid) then finish it off with your favourite facial mask.

While that's on, run a warm bath, pop in some of your favourite oil, light some candles and create a relaxing atmosphere. Your skin will love the extra attention and your mind will love the extra relaxation.


5. Sunscreen. All day, every day.

We cannot preach this one enough! Studies show that nearly 80% of sun exposure is incidental exposure. Yep, incidental. Things like walking to your car, driving, and sitting in your house next to windows exposes your skin to the sun which leads to sun damage from wrinkle-causing UVA rays. As we know, sun exposure is the #1 cause of premature ageing! Use a minimum of SPF 30 every day, all year round. There are so many formulations these days, from oil-free to zinc based to mist that you're sure to find one suitable for any skin type.
